My experience with One Good Deed and Caregiver CARE has been extremely positive. You found a wonderful match for me, and I feel that the recipient is as equally pleased.

The caregiver was spending much of his time, when he was with his mother, dealing with writing checks and balancing her checkbook. The caregiver has gladly given this task to me, and it appears that this has helped all involved. They are able to spend more quality time together, and the recipient and I have a very good working relationship that improves each week with my being able to help with writing checks, balancing the checkbook, filing and general organization.

Since the recipient has visual issues, she has requested that I help her create a new card file of addresses and phone numbers. We work on that weekly after we finish our other business. We conclude our visits with tea and a chat.

The experience is certainly rewarding and enriching for me, and I am delighted to be a part of this service.

Carol Kozlovic works every day in her family business. When her mother, Ann Schwartz, needs her for an emergency, Carol will drop everything and handle what needs to be handled, but Ann never wants to bother her.   Ann lives at the Jewish Tower, is well into her 90’s, and is quite independent, but lately her vision has started to get in the way of her ability to handle her own bills and checkbook, and read her mail. Ann found out from a friend about the services of One Good Deed. Now, a One Good Deed volunteer, visits Ann every two weeks to help her with these tasks. Without her volunteer, Ann would have to ask Carol for help. “With mom having a volunteer, it relieves me of feeling guilty that I would have to put off helping her with her checkbook until I have the time to do it. It takes a lot of pressure off of me. I know mom doesn’t want to have to ask me to help, so having a volunteer helps her feel less dependent on me.”

Ann loves her visits from the One Good Deed volunteer.  The One Good Deed volunteer balances her checkbook and helps go through the mail, then she and Ann just visit. They’ve become good friends. Carol is relieved to know that these regular visits are enhancing her mother’s ability to live independently.

I am very grateful for your help in finding volunteers to spend time with my sister. She seems to be much better lately, which is a huge relief for me. It helps relieve my guilt at not being able to spend more time with her. My job is very demanding and does not allow me to give her as much attention as she needs.

Her biggest desire is to be able to get out of her building once in a while since she is no longer able to drive herself. Your volunteers have taken her out for lunch, taken her shopping and are arranging for trips to places like the Atlanta History Center. Last week she and her volunteer went to Chastain Park to walk around and visit the horses. She rode horses when she was a young woman and seeing the horses was a real thrill for her.

She is certainly enjoying the attention she is receiving from the volunteers and looks forward to her outings. Thank you so much for providing this service for the community.

By providing transportation for my mother, One Good Deed and Caregiver Care help improve the quality of life for my mother and alleviate stress for me as a caregiver.  We are grateful to be a recipient of services and assistance from both programs.

One Good Deed has helped my mother (who has low vision) by hand printing large font telephone contact cards for her and by doing other tasks involving writing and record keeping. That volunteer assistance has made it much easier for my mother to make important telephone calls and to keep accurate records of financial transactions.

OGD/CGC is a blessing to our community. It’s reassuring to know that I can depend on the useful services and nurturing social interactions that OGD/CGC volunteers provide. My mother and I are very grateful for that help.
